Calpine Energy Services

On July 24, 2001,MVEC entered into a new wholesale power contract with Calpine Energy Services. The Calpine generating facility is located on Monte Cristo Road, in Northwest Edinburg.

Calpine is one of the fastest growing companies in the nation's electric power industry. It has quickly become a leader in the new world of competitive electric production. Its mission is to repower America with modern, highly-efficient facilities to generate electricity, to displace antiquated, polluting power plants, and to meet the ever-increasing demand for affordable, reliable electricity.

South Texas Electric Cooperative (STEC)

MVEC has joined STEC, a generation and transmission cooperative, which currently serves six distribution cooperatives in South Texas, in order to diversify our fuel supply. Beginning in 2010, STEC will meet the future energy needs of MVEC from several generation sources such as natural gas, hydro, and lignite coal. By joining STEC, we seek to enjoy the cost savings associated with their economies of scale, which means more savings for our members.
