For the fifth year, MVEC has awarded $100,000 to five local Rio Grande Valley High School Seniors. Over 170 students from across the Valley applied for the 2002 scholarship and the selection process was very difficult due to the caliber of applicants received. They were honored at the Magic Valley Electric Cooperative Annual Meeting on April 15th in Weslaco, Texas Angela Lopez will study for her bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at Rice University. She aspires to contribute as a benefactor to other female engineers. Noemi De La Cruz plans to major in biomedical engineering at Rice University in Houston. Both are anxious and excited to go live in one of the biggest cities in the world. Christina Rodriguez plans to major in elementary education and will continue her studies in the RGV at Texas-Pan American in Edinburg. Christopher Perez, who placed 1st in number sense in the state of Texas, will attend UT-Austin. John Klostermann will major in pre-law at Texas A&M in Bryan Station.
