Magic Valley Electric Cooperative is proud to announce that Edward Proa and Jaime Espensen-Sturges have been selected to represent MVEC at the 2002 Government-in-Action Youth Tour in Washington, D.C. After being chosen as two of the five finalists from applicants throughout the Rio Grande Valley, Edward and Jaime were selected following personal interviews. They were honored at the Magic Valley Electric Cooperative Annual Meeting on April 15th in Weslaco, Texas Edward and Jaime will fly to Dallas where they will join approximately 120 other fellow Texan participants. Following an orientation, they will board charter buses on Thursday June 13, making two stopovers in Tennessee. The activity-filled week in Washington, D.C. will include tours to the White House, Bureau of Engraving & Printing, Capitol Hill, National Archives, Iwo Jima Memorial, Ford's Theatre, Washington National Cathedral, Smithsonian Institute, Washington Monument, Mount Vernon, FDR Memorial Pentagon City, Arlington National Cemetery, and Jefferson, Lincoln, Vietnam and Korean Memorials. They have an appointment to meet U.S. Congressman Ruben Hinojosa, and will visit the Supreme Court, House and Senate Chambers, and the Library of Congress.
