Youth Tour 2003

Rick Anthony Zuniga and Jesus R. Piñeda, Jr. were selected to represent MVEC at the 2003 Government-in-Action Youth Tour in Washington, D.C. After being chosen as two of the five finalists from applicants throughout the Rio Grande Valley, Rick and Jesus were selected following personal interviews. They were honored at the Magic Valley Electric Cooperative Annual Meeting on April 14th in Weslaco, Texas. Rick and Jesus flew to Dallas where joined approximately 120 other fellow Texan participants. Following an orientation, they boarded charter buses on Thursday June 12, made two stopovers in Tennessee. The activity-filled week in Washington, D.C. included tours to the White House, Bureau of Engraving & Printing, Capitol Hill, National Archives, Iwo Jima Memorial, Ford's Theatre, Washington National Cathedral, Smithsonian Institute, Washington Monument, Mount Vernon, FDR Memorial Pentagon City, Arlington National Cemetery, and Jefferson, Lincoln, Vietnam and Korean Memorials. They met U.S. Congressman Ruben Hinojosa, and visited the Supreme Court, House and Senate Chambers as well as the Library of Congress.
