Customer Service Data - Information

  1. Cooperative - "Cooperative" or "MVEC" as used throughout this booklet refers to Magic Valley Electric Cooperative, Inc.
  2. Member - "Member" is used to designate either the present or prospective users of the Cooperative's electric service or their authorized representatives.
  3. Service Conductors - (Service Drop) The conductors from the Cooperative's distribution facilities to the point of attachment on Member's building or structure.
  4. Service Entrance - Wires & enclosures connecting the equipment on the building or structure to the Cooperative's service drop.
  5. Service Entrance Conductors - The conductors between the service conductors and the meter.
  6. Service Entrance Equipment - Main disconnect or disconnect devices normally installed adjacent to the outdoor meter enclosure, socket, or base.
  7. Vertical Clearance

    1. Single Phase (ø) Residential Overhead Meter Installation

      (1) Minimum vertical clearance for MVEC's service cable shall be as required by the National Electric Safety Code but in no case less than 12.5' (see NESC Table 232.1).

      (2) Point of attachment shall be no less than 12.5' but may have to be higher so MVEC's service cable can maintain a minimum clearance to ground as required by NESC.

      (3) The unwrapped portion of the 0service cable at the Member's point of attachment shall be considered part of the drip loop and does not conflict with (1) minimum vertical clearance.

    2. 100 Year Flood Program (where applicable)

      (1) If the base flood level is higher than standard installation height, the meter socket shall be installed at or above the base flood level.

      (2) Where meter installation is higher than Standard, Member shall provide and maintain in safe condition an access platform 6' below the top of the meter box. Working area of the platform shall be a minimum of 36" in front of meter box and 15" on either side of meter box. The access platform shall be built to hold 500 pounds per square foot.

      Minimum vertical clearance for service cable shall be as required by the National Electric Safety Code but in no case less than 12.5' from the top of the platform (see NESC Table 232.1).
